Q&A:
Each question in this Q&A will be answered for each final shot (the final shots are the top row in this gallery).
Why did you select these shots?
I selected the black and white final shot because I loved the composition and the balance in the image over the other black and white shots.
I selected the shallow depth of field final shot because of the vivid colors of the flowers and the way it contrasted with the white background. I also love the way the shot is blurred in the background.
I selected the minimal photograph final shot because I love the motion from the leading lines of the stem as it goes from the left side of the image all the way to the flowers.
How do you feel about the composition of each image?
For the black and white shot I like the way that the composition brakes the rule of thirds but is still very balanced and I like the way that the objects overlapthe other objects.
For the shallow depth of field shot I like the composition because I love the way that the flower in the background is blurred and the images use of emphasis.
For the minimal photograph I like the composition because of its use of the rule of thirds and the shadows and lighting and a heavy use of leading lines.
What did you do with the lighting in each image?
For the black and white shot I turned on a bright light coming in from the left and a not as bright light coming in from the top right to introduce shadows.
For the shallow depth of field shot I turned on one light going directly toward the side of the light box and one on top to balance out the light.
For the minimal photograph I turned on a bright light at the top-left of the lightbox and brought it down a little to show a strong use of shadows of the roses.
Do you like these shots?
I like these shots because I love the composition of the shots that I had complete control over.
